This week if you have been following the ongoing saga of the so-called “Varsity Blues” college admissions scandal, you’ll know that more sentencings of charged violators will be taking place. The first to be sentenced had been celebrity TV star Felicity Huffman, that will spend 2 weeks in prison start 25 october.
As you without doubt know, the scandal involves moms and dads having to pay college officials bribes to have their children admitted to colleges, USC in specific, several times through the “side home” of sports coaches. The alleged ringleader for organizing these bribed admissions is Rick Singer, who is said to have obfuscated the bribes as donations to universities through their foundation, that has been intended to facilitate the effectiveness of parental contributions.
This story was raging in the media for several days and shows no sign of abating. Consequently, the end result on potential college applicants has, in number of instances, gone to discourage them. Some applicants (and parents) have begun to understand college admissions process as innately corrupt and, according to the evidence that is scandal has emerged, found themselves reasoning, ” How can I contend with candidates coming from families who are able to afford to buy their means into university?”
